Our Mission
A class is more than where content is taught; it is a forum for progressive change, even better Revolutionary change. Our mission as educators is to ensure that ALL students are made aware of the role they play in the power dynamics of society, all the while enabling and empowering them with particular skill sets and knowledge to successfully dismantle the oppressive structures. Because EQUITY is defined as providing individuals with what they need in order to achieve success (National Equity Project), we want our students to not only be students of educational equity but also advocates of social equity. Students who are engaged in what they learn because they can understand the great value and relevance in what they are being taught will transform into students who think critically about content and create new perspectives, ideas, models, solutions, and much more. By ensuring that our schools are culturally inclusive environments, we can create the next generation who can and will combat exclusivity.

Our Approach
Equity uncovers many racial and social inequities that we, educators, must interact with in order to make a significant impact on our practice. However, the degree of vulnerability required of teachers can be emotionally exhaustive, discomforting, and on top of that unknowing of solutions. We hear from our fellow educators their concerns over the tensions between equity and teaching. These interactions are what drive us to engage in adult learning. Equity is an ongoing commitment and requires re-visitation, reflection and re-training. Our teacher communities need to have the will power, stamina, and emotional capacity to engage in equity daily. Therefore, EduC.A.N’s main focus is to also provide that same essence of equity to our teacher and school leaders. We believe ALL educators CAN and need to do this work. Because the needs of our schools and teachers vary, we do not believe in PDs that are one size fits all. We are committed to designing PD that targets your specific areas of improvement, establishes a safe socio-emotional environment to engage in equity work, and provides you with tangible tools to take back into your schools and classrooms.
